Dental Implants: A Solid Solution for Missing Teeth

missing teeth replacement

Dental implants offer a reliable way to replace missing teeth and eliminate the need for removable dentures. They provide sturdy support and stability for dental appliances.

Implants consist of artificial roots and teeth, often made from titanium. A dentist or Periodontist, a gum and bone specialist, surgically places them into the upper or lower jawbone. The resulting teeth look very natural and can significantly improve or restore a person's smile.

Dental implants are durable and can last for many years. Over time, they might need adjustments or replacements due to regular wear.

Why consider dental implants?

  • Replace missing teeth without affecting nearby ones.
  • Address joint pain or bite issues caused by teeth shifting into gaps.
  • Restore confidence in your smile.
  • Enhance chewing, speech, and digestion.
  • Strengthen facial features.
  • Provide secure and comfortable support for bridges or dentures.

What's involved in getting dental implants?

The implant process spans multiple visits over several months.

First, X-rays and impressions of the jaw and teeth are taken to assess bone, gum tissue, and available space. While numbed, the implant is surgically placed in the bone and given up to six months to heal and integrate. Depending on the implant type, a second surgery might be needed to attach the "post" that holds the artificial tooth. With some implants, the post and anchor are placed together.

After a healing period, artificial teeth are crafted and attached to the post. This step may take a couple of months due to possible adjustments. Once the healing is complete, the artificial teeth are securely affixed to the implant, ensuring great stability and comfort.

Upon completion of your treatment, you'll receive care instructions. Practicing good oral hygiene, maintaining healthy eating habits, and keeping up with regular dental visits will help your new implant last.

Straumann® implants offer a powerful solution for replacing missing teeth. Made from medical-grade titanium, these implants are highly compatible with the body and boast long-lasting performance. They are among the most widely used implant types worldwide, restoring complete dental function.

Dental implants present a favorable alternative to other restorations like dental bridges. Unlike those options, implants don't need frequent replacements over time. Additionally, implants improve both the aesthetic and natural feel of the smile.

Here are key benefits linked to dental implants:

  • Preserve bone density
  • No impact on surrounding teeth
  • Enhance jaw stability and balance
  • Suitable for single or multiple tooth replacement
  • Anchor for partial or full dentures

How can Straumann® dental implants benefit you?

Straumann® dental implants stand out due to distinctive features. Utilizing advanced technology, Straumann® accelerates healing and osseointegration (bone integration around the implant). These implants are especially advantageous for patients with bone density concerns. Some main advantages of Straumann® implants include:

  • 99% success rate for patients with good oral health
  • Cutting-edge implant surface for faster healing
  • Over 3 million successful implant placements
  • Backed by 30 years of clinical research and expertise
  • Implant options for compromised bone quality

What types of Straumann® implants are available?

Straumann® offers three primary implant types, each available in various sizes. Although many individuals are suitable candidates for Straumann® implants, diverse needs require different implant styles. Here's a quick overview of the various Straumann® implants:

  • Straumann® Standard Implants – These implants foster swift healing when placed through the gums, featuring the SLActive surface for rapid bone integration.
  • Straumann® Standard Plus Implants – Designed for semi-, trans-, and subgingival use in the front region of the mouth, these implants showcase the specialized SLActive surface. Ideal for areas where teeth are most visible.
  • Straumann® Tapered Effect Implants – These implants support immediate loading with a temporary prosthetic. Specifically developed for early implantation.

How are Straumann® dental implants placed?

Typically, Straumann® implants require three dental visits. During the initial visit, a comprehensive plan is created for upcoming procedures. Thorough assessments and 3D x-rays help determine optimal implant placement for maximum benefits.

In the second visit, the implant is placed under local anesthesia. An incision is made in the gum tissue to expose the jawbone at the implant site. The Straumann® implant is then inserted into the bone through screwing or tapping. A cap is placed atop the implant, and the surgical site is stitched. In some cases, implants can be inserted directly through the gum tissue, without additional incisions.

Subsequent to this visit, osseointegration occurs, stabilizing the implant in the jawbone. This process takes around 3-4 weeks, significantly shorter than with other implant types. The third appointment, usually shorter, involves placing the custom-designed dental crown or restoration permanently. Sometimes, the restoration can be placed immediately along with the implant during the second visit.
